Kachina: Big Horn Sheep
Part of the collection of Kachinas, known as the animal spirits, the Big Horn Sheep Kachina always depicts the male Ram of the species. It is also called the Ram Kachina. Prominent features of the doll include the horns, evergreens and fox hide, as are the neck and forearm jewelry, and the human hands and decorated sticks. The Ram is known to protect his flock, as well as to sire the next generation, so it is revered among the animals.
The horns are both shown with realistic golden mean proportions and the Kachina is easily distinguished from any single horn animals from the spirit world.
